Summer in Zurich is beautiful and busy. By late September the light gets lower, the promenade thins out, and you can walk Augustinergasse without a wall of tour groups. Bring a jacket. The lake is still the centre of the day.
What autumn is good for
- Lake and Bürkliplatz without the peak-season crush — still time for a short boat if the weather holds.
- Uetliberg or a hillside walk for colour. It is a local habit, not a theme park.
- Museums when it rains — Kunsthaus rather than forcing a mountain in fog.
